Thanks David!

New Life for Scraps... Eco-Friendly Rugs and More...

Dreamweavers is known for repurposing fabric scraps into soft, textured rugs and home accessories. Most recently, they have expanded their eco-friendly rug line to include Pilates balls. The company breathes new life into left-over fabric scraps, creating an entire line of soft, fluffy pillows and throws and eco-friendly shag rugs. The eco-friendly rugs and accessories are crafted from every sort of material imaginable - from scraps of upcycled cotton, fleece, and chamois to the more luxurious shearling.Their most imaginative product is the Ball, made from upcycled polyester-silk imported from China. According to Interior Design, the fabric scraps are a mix of fibers that can't be re-used, so Dreamweavers repurposes the fabric scraps into eco-friendly fabric covers for Pilates balls. Each ball uses from 5,000 to 8,000 scraps, creating a one-of-a-kind environmentally friendly masterpiece. Just what everyone needs finish off their living room.

Cantoni House

We would never leave this media room in the Cantoni House.
They have some great pics on their site.

... is quite taken with our upcycled products. They write:
Ever wonder what happens to the scraps of fabric leftover from garment making? If you’re like me, you probably haven’t. My first introduction to upcycling fabric waste came when I started selling rug pads made in part from new clothing remnants. Each time I receive an order the pads look a bit different depending on which fabric scraps were used. It’s quite fascinating to see first hand the efforts manufacturers are making in repurposing industry waste.
Dreamweavers is one company utilizing upcycled products in rug making. Their Executive Rugs Line (photo above) is constructed of material leftover after making men’s neckties. Bits of silk and polyester fabric are cut and sewn by hand, filled with a poly filling then pieced together. The rug is promoted as stain-resistant, colorfast and 100% machine washable.

Save Energy Tip of the Day: Buy Recycled

Posted by GreenGavin in Save Energy Tips on February 3rd, 2009
The waste pouring out of factories around the world is staggering, it’s disgusting. Even the most efficient factories put out thousands of pounds of waste each year.
That’s why I do my best to buy recycled products when I can, I’d just be part of the problem if I didn’t.
And before you say you don’t want to go buy some stained old clothes or an egg-carton couch, take a look at some of the really great “reclaimed” products. They go a step beyond normal recycling, and use the waste byproducts of creating normal goods.
This Cotton Spaghetti Rug, for example, is one way to get great looking designer stuff from normal waste products.

Keeping Ourselves Contained

On a recent Saturday shopping excursion we spied this at our local Container Store.
That's a Pebble Rug: Natural on the cover. They don't sell them, but we're glad they used it for their catalog!

The Decorating Diva has an interesting piece about eco-friendly rugs. We think it's interesting because we have a rug on the Top 12 Stylish Eco-Friendly Rugs - 2009 list.

Top 12 Stylish Eco-Friendly Rugs - 2009
Eco friendly decorating that’s stylish, practical, and innovative has finally hit the floor. Eco sensitive rugs made from diverse materials ranging from: natural fibers like wool to upcycled poly-silk blends to recycled nylon fibers to repurposed bicycle tires are fashioned into creative and innovative forms that will have you taking a second look at what lies beneath your feet.

Dreamweavers, early pioneers of the eco-decorating industry, have been repurposing and giving new life to a range of discarded (and scrapped) materials such as cotton, fleece, silk, chamois and shearling before being eco-friendly was a chic buzzword bantered about in design circles .
